Definition of 3-Free

  1. A polish that does not contain Toulene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) & Formaldehyde in its ingredients. These chemicals are sometimes referred to as the “Big Three”. The general nail polish enthusiast is not likely to encounter these in amounts high enough to be harmed, but the majority of manufacturers and consumers prefer to go the safer route and avoid these. Most major polish manufacturers no longer use the “Big Three”. There are also discussions about the validity of the listing Formaldehyde as an ingredient in polish. It has been found that it was never actually an ingredient in polishes; more information on that can be found here.
